“5 FAQ’s About Designing a Custom Home with Sasser Construction”

Your story matters to us. When crafting the perfect house, it’s inevitable that you will have many questions throughout the process. What’s the process like? How long will it take? How much will it cost? Is this the right decision for my family?

We get it. Creating your home should be fun, not overwhelming or stressful. To help you get excited, we’ll break down our “Top 5” most frequently asked questions.

What does the process of building a new home look like?

The best way to jumpstart the process is to complete our Start Dreaming survey. This survey gives us a better idea of how you might plan to live in and use your home, along with the location and features that matter to you. Once this is completed, we schedule a time to sit down face-to-face and discuss all the details – everything from the size and location of your dream home to the cabinets and hardware you envision for your kitchen and bathrooms. Every detail matters, and we want to make sure we get it right for you and your family.

Whether it’s a fully customized kitchen that reflects your culinary passions, or a basic semi-custom, functional kitchen; our goal is to meet you exactly where you are in your vision. Don’t have any idea which direction to take? No problem, our in house architect and design team are eager and ready to help!

What is the typical timeframe to build a home?

 The process typically takes between six and nine months to complete- depending on the complexity of the build. (During the COVID pandemic months, it’s taking around 12 months) This includes routine inspections, laying the foundation and crawlspace, development of the framework, plumbing, electrical, painting, carpeting, walls, floors, cabinets, and more!

The details of your custom build timeline will be reviewed during the initial stages of our planning phase and you can expect regular check ins and communication to keep you informed.

Do you offer any financing options?  

We do offer financing recommendations through Towne Bank Mortgage. There are also special offers available (such as closing cost assistance and financing options for military personnel) so feel free to reach out to our preferred lender, Kristen Froehlich, and she will be happy to discuss all available options. A mortgage calculator is also a helpful tool to gain insight on what your monthly payments might look like.

What’s the average cost per square foot?

When you’re talking about building a custom home from the ground up, there really is no average cost per square foot. We wish that we could offer that information to you but this is a fluid number depending on the homebuyer’s wants, needs and budget. We will offer plenty of options for you to choose from when customizing your home and help you decide which direction to take so that you can maximize your budget.

Once you complete the Start Dreaming survey, our team will sit down with you and iron out all of the details so that you might have a better idea of the cost.

 What type of homeowner warranty does Sasser have available? 

We offer an automatic one-year contractor warranty and the option to purchase an additional 10-year warranty. This warranty includes all materials, workmanship, systems and structure, which covers all repairs and replacements. All interior and exterior fixtures and mission critical pipes are also covered in our 1-year warranty, and structural elements are covered in an optional, additional 10 year warranty.

The next benefit to choosing Sasser Construction for your home building journey is the ability to work with our very skilled, in house architect, Kenn Sedlacko.  Kenn has 30+ years of experience in residential and light commercial architecture and creates hand-drawn sketches for his clients, taking a simple idea and bringing it to life. He believes hand-drawn designs allow him to add a level of character that computer-aided drawings simply cannot provide.

We also have an in-house Interior Designer who brings many years of experience and talent to our team. Our designer, Tina White, has her own design studio where our customers can find anything they might need or want for their home, without having to run all around Hampton Roads searching.
